Her English is leaps and bounds ahead of my Italian, that's for sure. Very dedicated, I'm impressed! But for real though, listening to people have conversations is the path forward to language comprehension. It's also why I try to watch the JP streams to understand more Japanese, and I think it helps a ton.

She's really good for being self taught, and it's easy to understand every word she says.

Yeah, you can get to a good English level in four years if you put the effort and find an excuse to keep using the language (like streaming, making videos, and watching streams). In my case I have had a good level in written English for a long time, but my spoken English developed mostly, almost to my current level, in the first year of the pandemics. I still have a very strong accent, though.

So in 2020 she didn't speak a lick of English? That's pretty crazy to think about.

I learned English in 3 years, it can be done. You need to become a bit crazy, talking to yourself in English and watching literally everything with english subtitles helps.

I always tell my students that accents are important, as long as people can understand you, you're safe. And Raora's accent is not only understandable, it's cute

This reminds me of a co-worker who was a native Spanish speaker & said that learning Italian actually helped him learn English. He recommended it as a “transition” language between English and Spanish.

It's interesting because generally it will take someone who speaks a Latin influenced language about 500 to 1000 hours to reach "fluency". A language like Japanese takes that same person at least 1500 hours and probably closer to 2,000 hours to reach a similar level.

Her English is fantastic. It's much like Kaela's and Kobo's - they have an accent and occasionally skip a word or two in a sentence, but their pronunciation is excellent and they get their meaning across on the first try every time. They hardly ever need to fish for a word to get their intentions across, it's all easily understood by the viewers. They should all be very proud of the English skills!

Not all that impressive tbh. Some of the other Hololive members have learnt English or Japanese in a much shorter time, and there's way more difference between those 2 languages.
